Do you love playing games on the go? Then you must have been enjoying your PlayStation Portable (PSP). It is one of the most popular gaming devices ever because of its success in porting console quality games in such a small device. And now, Sony is offering its latest portable gadget, the PS Vita.
The PS Vita contains the standard PlayStation buttons such as the “square”, “circle”, “x” and “triangle” and the “L1” and “R1” side buttons. But besides these, you have plenty of other controls to use. The Vita now has two analog sticks although the d-pad is still right there at the left side. The screen is now a capacitive touchscreen which, as of now, can only be used in out-of-game menus. Another touch panel is located at the back of the device. Finally, accelerometer and gyroscope sensors are added for tilt controls and auto-rotate function.
With all those control options, the PS Vita offers users a gaming experience like no other device could offer. But what about the quality of the games you can play? The device packs a quad-core ARM Cortex processor which is currently the best processor for any mobile device.
The only mobile gadget that could match it in terms of speed is ASUS’ Transformer Prime. The GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is a top of the line SGX543MP4+. With all these hardware, expect only the most beautifully rendered games ever found on a mobile gaming device.
Like the PSP, the Vita is more than just games as you can also play movies and songs. You will be connecting with the PlayStation Network for all you multimedia content needs via Wi-Fi or 3G. There are also games that can be only downloaded from the PSN. If you are into classic PlayStation games, you will find plenty of them on the said portal.
There is not enough disk space inside the PS Vita for the games. You have, however, the new Sony memory card called NVG. It replaces the PSP’s UMD Disk which also means you can’t exchange games between the Vita and the PSP (although you can play PSP games on the Vita). To do this, you might have to use the additional storage media slot.
If the touchscreen does not remind you of Android tablets you will with the front and rear cameras. The 5-inch screen with a resolution of 960 by 544 pixels enhances your multimedia experience. Finally, infrared support is added which you can use for controlling Sony appliances.
